Handheld PDAs?

Q) What is the best PDA that works with Microsoft Office, but is a good price?

A) I like the Compaq IPaqs - Motorola Q is the best Windows CE compatible phone in my opinion....

Do handheld PDAs: HP iPAC rx1955, HP iPAC rx2495, or PALM TX have spreadsheet and word processor included?

A) Hello... The Palm TX has a version of Documents to Go included which includes a spreadsheet and wordprocessor that are compatible with Office. http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/tx/officedocs.epl The HP iPac rx1955 and rx2495 have you get mobile versions of Excel and Word included. Any suggestions for where I can recycle old PDAs?

Q) I've seen lots of charities taking in old cell phones but none so far for old PDAs and handheld devices. Any ideas?

A) How many do you have cause i will buy one

Does anyone know where I can get a handheld electronic Bejeweled game?

Q) I have the game on my computer but would like to be able to play Bejeweled when I travel. I have been able to find Bejeweled software for PDAs but was hoping there was just a handheld game to be found.

A) YOu can get it from toy "toys r us" or any large book store

Do you agree that one day all books will be published and read over the Web on handheld paper-like media?

Q) With the evolution of high-bandwidth, low power, handheld display technology and continued reseach in 'paper-thin' batteries, it is envisaged that paper-like handheld media could one day replace hardcopy books, newspapers and magazines. Will this happen over the next 20-30 years? Over the last 20 years, I seen wonderful 'powerful' PCs with 20MB harddisks,640k RAM evolve into PDAs with higher specs than some of the earlier minicomputers! Could the handheld be as thin and pliable as a sheet of A4-sized paper?

A) Did you ever imagine you can fit thousands of songs, a few movies and thousands of photos into a small device you could carry in your pocket. Well i didn't. The answer to your question is YES. Eventually there will be no book published because of the costs and retailing expenses. Every one will carry an electronic device which will combine as a phone and have all the essentials required. Books will be 100% electronic. Maybe another 10-15 year.

Why are PDAs so Expensive Anyway?

Q) It's not like these things come close to having the capability of a desktop system, yet they come close in price. Some actually exceed the price of a decent laptop. Is there just not enough competition? Is it because they are lower volume in sales? Or do the handheld manufacturers just have some darn good marketters that have been able to maintain bloated prices?

A) It's because they require custom components on a much smaller scale. As you may know making tiny low power memory chips and processors is still expensive. But you can get a basic basic PDA for $100 in the form of the Palm Z22, http://www.palm.com/us/products/handhelds/z22/ and the Tungesten E2 isn't bad at $200, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007VMROE/104-6888432-3961512?v=glance&n=172282 But you're right if you were talking about the PocketPCs but still, the basic Axim X51 is only $250 but it's all relative depending on what you consider to be expensive, http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/pda?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Which Handheld/PDA is better?

Q) Dell Axim X51: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/axim_x51_520?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs Palm LifeDrive: http://store.palm.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1999092&cp=2053203&clickid=mainnav_handhelds_txt&parentPage=family -PLEASE COMPARE AND TELL ME YOUR OPINION. -I know a Dell Axim is chepear but it doesn't have 4GB like Life Drive has. I could buy two 2GB SD cards for Axim and also have 4GB. -Are there OTHER good Wifi multi-feature PDAs you would recomend?

A) From personal experience, I would suggest you go with Palm! Since the late 90's I have owned around 20 different model PDAs,(not all at once!) both Palm OS and Pocket PC/Palm PC/Handheld PC models. I have never ever been able to find the ease of use and reliability in a Windows PDA that I have experienced and counted on in every one of my Palm OS devices. I find Palm OS devices to be simpler and much much more reliable to transfer data and programs to and from, and just generally very intuitive and smooth to use. For a regular computer I prefer a PC to an Apple, but for a PDA I really like and recommend Palms! MAJOR (well maybe) consideration: Palm accessories (like chargers) are widely available at electronics stores like Best Buy, CompUSA, Staples, OfficeMax, etc. whereas Dell equipment has to be ordered either from Dell or eBay or somewhere online. If you may need a spur of the moment replacement of a charger or ? someday this could be a big deal. You can find great deals at the Palm Factory outlet: http://store.palm.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=1179667 (some may have different or no warranties though, maybe you don't mind - I didn't for my current Palm). Have you considered the TX (has WiFi) or the E2 (has Bluetooth)? The current non-WiFi Palms (like E, E2, etc.) CAN be Wi-Fi enabled with a WiFi SD card. If you're interested in listening to audio on your Palm, there is a promotion with Audible.com - when you subscribe for $15/mo you get $100 toward any Palm handheld instantly. If you combine this deal with the current price on an open box Lifedrive (about $310) you can get a LD for about $210. Or you could get an E for under $30 plus shipping. Find the link for this at Palm.com (if they still have it). You can also check out www.gethightech.com - they have rebuilt PDAs as well as parts and fixing instructions in case you ever have need of them. Have fun, both deciding on and playing with your new PDA! :)

How do I write programs for a PDA?

Q) Mobel: HP IPAQ 6315 What do I need to learn to be able to write programs for this PDA? I already know C, BASIC, x86 ASM, Javascript, etc... Where can I get the compiler for this handheld computer? Are all HP PDAs compatible? Can I copy one program from one PDA and run it on another, or is this impossible? Are more PDAs compatible?

A) J2ME will work on more than just PDAs, Palm OS C Programming will let you get into the guts of things. Depends on what you wish to do. Links and information for OSX programming tools for both are at the below link. Windows and Linux stuff can also be found at the sites referenced.

Most useful devices?

Q) what are the most useful handheld electronic devices other than pdas and how much are they. Im looking for one that comes ijn all diffrent models and things and is really useful but doent cost to much like pdas cost 300 bucks that too much for me im only in 8th grade.

A)

The ultimate multimedia device?

Q) There are a plethora of multifunction devices out there; PDAs, personal media players, still cameras that shoot video, video cameras that shoot stills, cell phones that play mp3's, handheld games that play movies etc etc. If you had the ear of an electronics company, how would you describe your dream gadget? What features would it have and what price point would make you buy it? And do you *really* want a single gadget that does absolutely everything? What would do it for YOU

A) basically a psp which you can view live tv with preferably sky or ntl, send texts and emails. also the abality to phone anybody in the world and a large build in memory.dont forget the songs though
